Ancient Techniques for Modern Metal Smiths
 
October 24th and 25th, 2009
 
 
“People often ask me what sort of artist I am. I tell them that I don't know,
but I'm a completely unreconstructed one”    -Bill Dawson.
 
Bill came to art metals by way of a background in blacksmithing. He started at the
University of Oregon, where he worked making tools for the jewelry studio. Bill makes his living as a metalsmith, both teaching and creating custom pieces for all manner of patrons. His studio is located at Mud Bay on Puget Sound.

Enameling 101: Fusing Glass to Metal

March 28 & 29, 2009

This workshop presented both discussion and hands-on opportunity to experience
the materials and tools used in enameling. Techniques presented included stencilling,
sgraffito, basse-taille, champleve, cloisonne, grisaille and limoges.

Hinges and Lockets

September 27 & 28, 2008

Joanna's hands-on workshop dealt with metal mechanisms and focused on hinges and catches.

The project was a locket or box, which incorporated these and also included ornamentation, including tube setting stones.

Professional Practices for Artists

     In early October 2007, IMAG presented a wonderful Weekend Workshop.  Harriete Estel Berman shared a wealth of knowledge from her "Professional Practices" guidelines as well as from her 20 years of personal experiences as a practicing artist. click here for pictures.
