I've got a piece of jewelry from a garage sale that has me stumped. I recognize a part of it as being silver plate or "something" over brass, But, are there segments that are real? I've had it stashed in it's original plastic baggie so it's not had a chance to tarnish. Anybody out there have a trick to tell? It could be Native American or Mexican or .... Gimme a sign! Thanks Chris

Any part that will tarnish will probably be silver, not sure what the other parts are that you mention - stones, metal, etc. Would probably have to see it. There are test acids for finding out the gold content that you can purchase are are easy to use. Any stones you'd have to take someone who specializes in them to tell what they are or if they are real.
